The Business Professional Group was formed in the 1970’s as a gay men’s group. Today it exists to bring together gay and lesbian professionals
in an open and congenial atmosphere for both business networking and social purposes. Members come from all walks of life and professions. Approximately ten percent of the membership is retired. While the organization is made up of members
of the gay community, it is not exclusive. Straight people are welcome too.
Like many business groups, the BPG membership is limited per profession. The group allows no more than six members per professional category to prevent being "top heavy" in one area or another. Most
new members join by referral by current members. The organization would like prospective members to attend four functions as a guest before being invited to join. Upon invitation, the new members present an application to the board and
are interviewed. The group wants to make sure that each new person is compatible with the rest of the membership and that the BPG is what that member is looking for in a business group.
